Do you remember Lincoln’s beast of a gull-winged concept SUV from last year? Do you remember how gorgeous, luxurious and elegant it was? If you do, then you also remember that, when it was first shown, people referred to it as a land yacht. But Lincoln was always big, luxurious and gorgeous so the concept shouldn’t make you that much surprised. What should is the fact that nobody actually thought that much of those styling elements would find their way on the production vehicle. Lincoln obviously went for the shock and awe strategy, and it is paying back!
As you can see from the pictures, the front end of 2018 Lincoln Navigator is a copy-paste work from the concept with somewhat more pronounced headlights and a nose that give off a muscular and aggressive attitude. The imposing grille is nicely rounding up this aggressive look up front. The rear, on the other hand, “suffered” changes such as a clear delineation between reverse and brake lights, but the good thing is that the nice-looking roof spoiler remained put.
Besides this, all remains the same from wraparound window design to the wavy wheels but with somewhat larger tires on them. Exterior also contains some tech to it which reflects in LED puddle lamps, laminated front and side glass, as well as speed-dependent adaptive lighting, which narrows the light beam as the car accelerates to reduce glare offering increased visibility at low speeds around town. You will also get inclination and intrusion sensors, for that added safety, especially when you’re away from the vehicle.
2018 Lincoln Navigator Interior
The interior also remained pretty true to the concept’s design. Everything is nice and neatly tucked with two massive screens, one in place of a gauge cluster and other for infotainment duties. The company made sure there is a lot of psychical buttons which should sit nicely with older generations, but they also made the interior somewhat more conservative than the exterior does.
One more piece of interesting info is that the 2018 Lincoln Navigator shares its platform with the 2018 Ford Expedition which is the reason for much of the Expedition’s in-car tech like Sync 3 that comes as standard and includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You will have six USB ports available across all three rows, along with four 12 volt outlets and an 110-volt plug, as well as a wireless phone charger up front. There’s also a head-up display available for extra bucks.
But this one wouldn’t be that luxurious if it didn’t offer more, and that more comes in the form of an optional rear-seat entertainment system that brings streaming from Android devices while the internet addicts will have an embedded 4G LTE modem with a Wi-Fi hotspot capable of handling up to 10 mobile devices at once. Since this is Lincoln it has to provide some of the Lincoln-only touches like the front seats which are Lincoln’s Perfect Position Seats, that debuted on the Continental and offer 30 way adjustability, and an optional 20 speaker Revel II sound system, that is capable of mimicking the experience of being in the audience at a concert hall.
Engine
As far as the engine compartment is considered, at your disposal will be a 3.5-liter twin turbocharged V6 that can produce 450 HP mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The company should offer all-wheel drive as a standard for its 2018 Navigator, but so far Lincoln did not confirm that. Since it is based on a new F-150 frame, it is most likely that the base model will be an RWD configuration vehicle, but since that frame can also handle AWD setup we expect higher trims to offer that option. There is also a possibility that the Lincoln will continue the tradition with offering two different wheelbase sizes, but that as well isn’t confirmed just jet.
The 2018 Lincoln Navigator will officially show its face on the upcoming 2017 New York Auto Show where it will make its debut with the general public. The only lack of info comes regarding the pricing. The company didn’t, sadly, announce anything so far, but the Big Apple might be a good place for that. Stay tuned for info on this and other specifics. One more thing is to be expected, and it is at least several super-posh upgrades from its in-house Black Label department.
