Jeep is working on the next-generation Wrangler Unlimited model, and the prototype has been caught on camera once again. It is a four-door version this time, whereas a two-door Wrangler has been seen in the earlier photos. Both variants of the popular SUV are going to debut later this year or in early 2018, but we should keep an eye on the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show in November.
At the front end of the car, we expect round headlights in combination with a slatted grille, whereas square taillights will be featured and those will be similar to the ones on the ongoing model. The next-generation vehicle has door cut-lines, which is Jeep’s attempt to revive the rugged design that was popular on some of the predecessors. Among other details, we should expect exposed door hinges, big side mirror caps, and extended front bumper.
The Jeep Wrangler has been seen with BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A tires, which are apparently KO2s while the spare tire located at the back looks cool. In the cabin, FCA supplied a new switchgear, but there are also round air vents integrated into the dashboard and two round gauges in the cluster. The center of the dash features a touchscreen, which is most likely the improved version of the ongoing 8.4-inch display you can find in almost every FCA model.
The start of the production is scheduled for later this year at the FCA’s Toledo factory in Ohio. The Wrangler pickup should follow, and it is indicated by Jeep’s Crew Chief 715 Concept. Besides the addition of the truck to the lineup, Jeep will offer an eight-speed automatic transmission next to the already-existing six-speed manual. Moreover, a turbocharged I4 engine is expected to join the powerplant lineup, while further down the lane, diesel and hybrid options are plausible.
