2018 Jeep Wrangler JL Camo Reduced On Final Testing

According to Sergio Marchionne (FCA’s boss), the 2018 Jeep Wrangler (JL) will look quite like the JK model.

Sergio stated that he is unable to cover the whole of the vehicle with the masking tape because it is so unique and distinctive. Thus, he confirmed our speculations about the similarity of JL and JK models.

American automaker decided to treat us with some more information on the new Jeep by applying less camouflage on their latest prototypes for final testing. Many spy photos surfaced, and from them, we can deduce that there is not much to be hyped about since only the front and the rear parts of the models were covered in masking tape.

It is fairly safe to say now that the famous seven-slot grill is making a comeback accompanied by a giant front bumper and round headlights. We should expect a slight improvement in aerodynamics because of the modified windshield which still stands quite upright. There will also be a longer wheelbase, but nothing else is much out of the ordinary.

2018 Jeep Wrangler Engine

Under the hood, we will have a modified and improved Pentastar 3.6-liter V6 engine which was quite an issue in the previous models. However, it is expected that this upgraded version will be more reliable. For those interested in lower priced versions, they will be equipped with a new Fiat turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.

International models of the Wrangler JL should have a 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine which is courtesy of ‘VM-Motori.’ When it comes to automatic transmission, powerplants will be paired to different versions of the ZF 8HP. Fortunate for us and many true enthusiasts, the manual six-speed transmission will, of course, be available.

An interesting novelty of the Wrangler JL will be its weight. It is expected to be at least 240 pounds (100 kg) lighter than the current model considering that aluminum is the most dominant constituent of its body. All of that results in better fuel economy which means that new JL will save you some money. Last but not least, creators have also focused on the design of the body in order to improve the vehicle when it comes to aerodynamics. The new JL will slice through the air fairly easily. Die-hard fans of the off-road sessions have nothing to worry about since the vehicle will keep its usual body-on-frame setup.

2018 Jeep Wrangler JL Release Date

The unveil is expected to be at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show, and the launch should be in early 2018. Another big surprise here is that this model is also set to receive a pickup version later during the year.
