When it comes to a Wrangler JL, there is a whole bunch of info we know about it from recent posts, then there were a ton of spy shots and speculations on its design, interior, exterior and engine lineup. But that is the past because now we finally have something concrete – first official photos of the 2018 Wrangler JL and the only thing now is for the manufacturer to give us the vehicle’s specifications, which shouldn’t take long by the way since the Jeep is planning to start production in November.
From the official shots, only one thing is obvious and expected – the Wrangler’s design is the same one we “saw” in those spy photos with two and four-door variant that came earlier this year. Since the exterior didn’t change much, thankfully, the interior was, of course, prepped for bigger modifications that include the much awaited and needed tech update including the latest versions of Chrysler’s Uconnect infotainment system.
As far as the specifications are considered Jeep will hold on to those details for a little while longer. At this moment the only close-to-sure things we know is that the engine options will be between Chrysler’s 3.6 L Pentastar V6 unit and a new 2.0 L turbocharged four-cylinder one. The transmission choice was discovered thanks to a leaked owner’s manual, and according to the manual, it will come down to either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic.
From the info’s that were available earlier we know that two different transfer cases will be offered – a four-position unit with the expected high and low ranges, and a five-position unit with both 4H Auto and 4H P-T modes. Thanks to Mopar a huge number of accessories will be offered for the new Wrangler, and that will, without a doubt, indulge those of you who prefer your vehicle highly customised and personalized.
Besides this, a lot more is in store for the new Wrangler lineup, and it starts with a possible diesel engine unit, a hybrid variant, and a confirmed pickup called the Scrambler. These will likely have to wait until sometime next year which means that you will see a lot of Wrangler and its variants for months, after the standard model debuts at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 29th.
