Since Jeep trademarked the name “Trackhawk” in October 2014, there were rumors that it could be Hellcat-powered Grand Cherokee, and Jeep CEO Mike Manley confirmed the rumors in January 2016. At the same time, he said that the most powerful Grand Cherokee will enter the market in 2017, and the latest update is that it will debut at New York Auto Show in April. It means that the Hellcat Jeep will be presented right beside the ultimate Hellcat-powered vehicle, the mighty Dodge Challenger SRT Demon.
It is now known what will Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk look like. In a way, it will follow the classic Grand Cherokee appearance, but with some major changes. At first glance, you can see that the new car has more muscle than before. It is simply built to show you how strong it is, and sports line is added too, extended wheel arches, sports rims which reveal red Brembo brakes underneath. The wheels are rumored to be changed, and the story said that the new ones will contain Hellcat logos, but that information is not confirmed yet.
Another nice detail is added at the top of the tailgate; the small spoiler is also there to distinguish this vehicle as a sports car. Bumpers are redesigned to look like those mounted on other Hellcat models, and the hood is most probably going to be changed, the new powerplant simply needs more air flowing into it. Just because of that, under the classic Cherokee intake grille, there is another one, allowing the engine to breathe even deeper.
And the mighty Hellcat under the bonnet, oh that is the story to tell. But still, there are some concerns. First of all, the engine is insanely powerful. The new Grand Cherokee will feature the supercharged 6.2 V8 Hemi powerplant which produces 707 HP packed into the Cherokee’s Dodge relative. The main question is, what about the all-wheel-drive system? Is it going to endure all that power given by the engine, or it will fall apart, spraying bolts and bits all over. The simple solution is to reduce the power, at least in lower gears, but there is yet to see what did engineers figured. The transmission is mostly like to be eight-speed automatic, used in other Hellcats.
Some say that the Hellcat name will somehow be added to the new Jeep nameplate, but it is not certain. Calling the car “Hellcat” would surely increase the interest, but that name belongs to Dodge, so the usage would be arguable. Also, it would be simply too long, imagine Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk Hellcat…
