Well with this one Jag has pretty much declared war to the only company that truly produces more than admirable battery powered vehicle which is Tesla. The plans that British automaker Jaguar has put in front of itself demand a plug-in luxury SUV in their fleet, and that is exactly what the company will produce and roll on the road by 2018. The vehicle in question is Jaguar I-Pace which will be available for preview at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show. This SUV will put Jaguar directly in Tesla’s crosshair especially now that it is targeting theirs already available Model X in Australia with a price tag of $111,900.

News.com.au are already calling this an all out electric war between these two. Jaguar’s design director Ian Callum stated that thanks to the present times, and what is expecting us in the future the car’s ground up design is bound to change more in the coming five years than it has already in the previous 50. According to Mr. Callum, this will also occur in the car design department because the engineers are no longer restrained with what used to be common packaging demands.
Callum also said that I-Pace represents a drastic change from what Jaguar traditionally used to make and that it will also be the most significant new model since the 1960’s E-Type sports cars. To a pretty straight forward question – why would anybody buy the new Jaguar instead of the Model X, Mr. Callum made a very interesting answer showing just how much he believes in the I-Pace – “Just take a look at it. This is a Jaguar, and a real Jaguar in every way”.
Jaguar also disclosed some information regarding its latest feat the I-Pace. Apparently, it will have a range of 500 kilometers between charges and a two-hour charge time which in that point alone puts it ahead of some versions of the Model X. For the propulsion, the I-Pace will utilize two electric motors divided among the front and rear axle for the all-wheel drive purposes that combined offer 294 kW and 700 Nm of torque. Thanks to them we will have an SUV that will sprint from 0 to 60 MPH in just 4 seconds which is definitely quicker than the Model X 90D. What Jag didn’t disclose is the info regarding the price of its battery-powered I-Pace, or where it might be built.
Tesla, on the other hand, isn’t much shaken up by this and is already making plans to boost their production capacity which will sum up to 500,000 vehicles per year by 2018, according to Financial Review. Tesla is safe, at least for now, continuing their production and bundling the interior options for the Model X, a slight change unlike the previous usage of the online Model X Design Studio where you could choose individual colors for seats, headliner, and interior trim among others, according to Clean Technica.
