In June, two years ago, we had a chance to see a few patent images, which were depicting the mid-engine Honda/Acura sports car and these photos definitely evoked many rumors about the long-anticipated Honda S2000 revival. Later on, Auto Express published an article about companies decision to revive the model, and according to that story, this should be done with 2018 Honda S2000.
In July 2015, at the Mountain View Research Park in California, Honda unveiled their sports car concept, which is similar to the content of patent images, creating another reason to believe in the comeback of S2000.
According to the recent report from Japanese Holiday Auto magazine, the Honda S2000 will definitely return, and it will sit between the S660 and NSX supercar. The revived vehicle should hit the market next year when the company is going to mark its 70th anniversary and 20 years since the debut of the first S2000 roadster. The new model was initially believed to come with a 2.0-liter petrol engine from the Civic Type R, but that would not be the case, as the new vehicle will reportedly receive a better engine and a “unique chassis.”
2018 Honda S2000 Engine
Under the Hood of 2018 Honda S2000, we expect to see a newly developed turbocharged petrol unit with an electrically driven supercharger in order to improve fuel economy. The technology of this engine will be almost identical to the Mitsubishi’s system, and this powerplant should produce more than 320 horsepower. The new engine will be combined with an eight-speed, dual-clutch automatic gearbox and so far Honda has been quiet about the manual transmission, but we will not exclude that option.
Price and Release date of 2018 Honda S2000
The third-gen Honda S2000 will be introduced either in September 2018 at the Paris Motor Show or the LA Auto Show after that. The starting price of the revived model is expected to be $50,000, and it is possible that we will see a concept later this year before the production version. Stay tuned for more details.
