At the moment, there are big talks about the 2018 Honda Accord at the plant in Marysville, Ohio. The Accord has been one of the Honda’s best-sellers in the recent years, and it will be overhauled drastically, just like the Civic and the CR-V.
On Monday, Japanese carmaker teased the fans with more of what to expect from this midsize sedan which is going to be launched soon whereas the prototype was put to the test. According to Honda, we are going to find out more details about the next version on July 14 because, on this date, the company will unveil the new model in production form. Prior to the reveal, you should know these five things about the Accord.
5. Accord Sport
The Honda Accord Sport came with sharp design and slightly upgraded engine, all of which we love to see. However, we cannot but ask ourselves whether Honda plans to skip this model for 2018 since buyers that are looking in the direction of the midsize segment are choosing crossovers over sedans.
The good news is that the company will produce a performance version of the new model considering that they said that the next-gen would sport a six-speed manual combined with either engine, which hints at a Sport variant. According to the company’s representative, the Sport version is a significant part of the Accord family. What will be under the hood of this car remains unclear for now.
4. Accord Coupe
The teaser photo that Honda released this week raises some suspicion because it fades to black behind the A-pillar. In other words, the picture could show us a two-door Accord, and that would be the eighth consecutive generation for that body style.
The good thing is that Accord Coupe was a rarity and this could refresh the lineup, plus the mid-size buyers are turning their backs on those type of vehicles in favor of crossovers. Furthermore, the new-generation will use Honda’s new modular platform that underpins both the Civic and the CR-V.
3. Turbo-4 Engines
We have a lot to look forward to because the range-topping Honda Accord will be equipped with a 2.0-liter turbo-4 engine that will be paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. However, a majority of the buyers will opt for a 1.5-liter turbo I4, which will power the base model.
The entry-level Accord will be similar to the Civic Si and the complete output expected is between 190 and 205 horsepower. The ongoing model is equipped with a 2.4-liter I4 powerplant good for 185 hp. However, a 2.0-liter turbo-4 that produces 306 hp in the Civic Type R is not going to find its place among the Accord family.
2. V6 Engine – The End is Near
The Japanese brand has officially announced that a V6 engine will be replaced by a turbocharged inline-four unit that also powers the Honda Civic Type R. The dismissal of the V6 powerplant is not a surprise at all and in the near future, we are going to see more carmakers following Honda’s examples.
Just keep an eye on the pricing, which is going to be announced closer to the fall slightly before the 2018 Honda Accord hits the market. The growth in price will be an excellent indication of how far the 2.0-liter turbo-4 will go around the Honda lineup. It will also show whether the buyers are willing to pay for it and how much.
1. A Racier Roofline – Also Borrowed From the Civic
The teaser image of the 2018 Honda Accord doesn’t reveal much, but the camouflaged version implies that the new model is going to adopt the Civic’s roofline. Perhaps, we can even hope for the Accord Hatchback comeback.
