For 2018 model year, Ford modified its Expedition, and it is better than its predecessor, but is it better than the Chevrolet Tahoe? The new 2018 Ford Expedition is about 300 pounds lighter, and it comes with a new EcoBoost V6 engine which produces more power. It was presented a few days ago at the 2017 Chicago Auto Show and the time has come to see how it rates against its competitors, in this case against the Tahoe.
Engine and Power
We are still in the dark when it comes to the performance figures of the new Expedition, but we are familiar with the EcoBoost V6 and what it can do, so the predicted horsepower rating is between 360 and 400. The engine is mated to a 10-speed automatic, while the towing capacity will exceed 6,600 pounds. On the other hand, we have the 2017 Chevy Tahoe with a 5.3-liter V8 powerplant that is good for 355 horses and is paired with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The towing capacity of the Tahoe is 5,600 pounds.
Size and Weight
According to Blue Oval, the new Expedition is four inches longer, which means that its total length is 210.5 inches and it has a 122-inch wheelbase. We have already mentioned that it has shed some weight, which brings it down to about 5,262 pounds. On the other hand, the wheelbase of the Tahoe is 4 inches longer, but its overall length is 203.9 inches. The weight of the 2017 Chevy Tahoe is 5,326 pounds.
Features
Both Ford Expedition and Chevy Tahoe come with a lot of equipment, and both cars are offered with 4G LTE Wi-Fi connectivity, wireless charging, and six USB ports. Furthermore, standard tech features include Apple Car Play and Android Auto, but the Expedition comes with a panoramic roof, whereas the Tahoe doesn’t.
Safety
Safety is one of the most important aspects, and both models have Forward Collision Alert and Lane Keep Assist. However, the Expedition is equipped with Active Park Assist and A 360-degree camera, both of which are lacking on the Tahoe.
