The 2018 Ford Expedition is currently being developed and it is possible that it will have some of the details from the Ford F-150. Although at the beginning the Expedition was based on the Raptor, it has changed over the years. There were some suspension changes, as well as the interior and exterior renovations, and now we have a unique Expedition model. The third-generation got out in 2007 and it was updated in 2014. Two years ago, the car received 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine and we have a chance to meet a new 2018 Ford Expedition.
2018 Ford Expedition Exterior – What to Expect?
Although the F-150 and Expedition have drifted apart in the recent years, the new design of the Expedition will resemble the one of the Raptor. It is hard to tell from these photos, but we guess that chrome details will be added to the front grille, whereas the headlights will have LED lighting. The sides of the car should remain the same with the same door handles.
Under the covers, we can see the horizontal chrome bars at the front grille. It is hard to analyze headlights, but the cooling of the engine will take place underneath the grille. The aerodynamics is improved with the large air dam below.
Speaking of the size of the vehicle, it should remain unchanged. The windshield will also enhance aerodynamics and give the SUV more aggressive look. The roof rails are visible, which is one utility aspect the new car will have. On the sides, power-retractable running boards will be added to the upper trims, whereas they will probably be fixed on the base trim or even the mid models.
Moving to the rear end, we have a sloping rear window and as far as we can tell, the rear glass has a separate handle. This implies that the glass can be opened, without opening the tailgate. The LED taillights are also certain, whereas there is a bulge on the rear bumper.
Little is known about the Interior
Unfortunately, there are no photos of the Expedition interior available. However, some of the interior parts such as passenger side A-pillar grab handle and the top section of the dashboard. The rearview mirror is also visible, but there is nothing significant about the features or technology. So, we are going to state what Ford is likely to introduce.
Most likely, the new Expedition will have space for eight passengers, which will be seated in three rows. There is a possibility of captain’s chair for the second row, which means that “only” seven travelers would be able to sit in the new car. It is expected that you can lower or raise both third and second row of seats. The rear row will be folded flat if necessary for tremendous cargo space.
There is no doubt that the new Expedition will have state-of-the-art features such as SYNC3 which will be in the dashboard. Lane keep assist and blind spot monitoring are only some of the technological feats that will find the way to the new model. Let’s wait and see.
Engine options
The F-150 will borrow a 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine to the new Expedition. The engine is rated at 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. It produces more power that the Chevy Suburban’s 6.2-liter V8 unit. The American carmaker joined forces with GM in order to produce a new 10-speed automatic transmission. This gearbox will probably be in the new Expedition and it will improve the performance of the car. The vehicle will be available with AWD and RWD.
However, the rumor has it that the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 unit should be the standard. It produces 325 hp and 375 lb-ft of torque and it would be great to see this smaller but powerful engine within the lineup. Turbodiesel option is also possible, but this has yet to be confirmed.
2018 Ford Expedition price
In order for the Expedition to battle against GM vehicles, the prices must not rise too much. The starting price of the ongoing model is $46,225, so expect a slight increase in price for the base model. The trims will most likely remain the same and the price for the top-shelf model is expected to go over $70,000.
Release Date of new 2018 Expedition
Once the Ford is on the market, it will have to top Chevrolet Tahoe, which comes with the powerful 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 that produces 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. Another car that will give headaches to the officials from Ford is GMC Yukon XL Denali. This car comes with luxurious interior and a 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8, which delivers 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. So can the 2018 Expedition top these two cars in sales?
Well, we will know that once the Expedition is out in the market. The car will be presented at the 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January next year. The Expedition will reach the production line in July 2017. So, expect the sales to start few weeks later.
Will the 2018 Ford Expedition live up to its expectations?
