Chevrolet has presented the 2018 Camaro ZL1 NASCAR Cup Race Car which is going to debut at the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup series with Jimmie Johnson behind the wheel. Chevy hopes that the Camaro ZL1 will be successful and it will replace the SS race car as the brand new face on the track. We will watch the vehicle at Daytona Speedweeks which will kick off the 2018 NASCAR season.
We don’t know the performance figure of the future contender but here is what the Chevrolet’s press release has stated: “Chevrolet engineers employed an array of tools, including computational fluid dynamics analysis and reduced-scale and full-scale wind-tunnel testing, to optimize aerodynamic performance while maintaining the ZL1’s design character.”
Mark Reuss, executive vice president of GM Global Product Development said: “Chevrolet, Camaro, and ZL1 are all synonymous with winning, both on and off the track. We are thrilled to run Camaro in NASCAR next year, with the time-honored and track-tested ZL1 badge, and we’re just as excited for our drivers, teams, fans, and customers.”
This is a good decision by Chevy because the Camaro ZL1 is the perfect replacement for the outgoing Chevy SS-based racer. The Camaro ZL1 will compete together with the Camaro SS that has been in the NASCAR XFINITY Series for some time. During the car introduction, representatives from Hendrick Motorsports, Richard Childress Racing, JTG Daugherty Racing and many others were present.
The vehicle will wear #8 stickers which will pay tribute to Louis Chevrolet’s historic competition number. Meanwhile, the road-going 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE equipped with the supercharged L4 V8 unit good for 650 hp recorded 7:16:04 at the Nurburgring. That is an excellent result, and we cannot wait to see the new Camaro ZL1 racing!
