The X3 is an all-around vehicle that is a great seller for so many different reasons. It has been refreshed in 2015, while it also received a new four-cylinder diesel. However, a full redesign will bring more power, new styling cues, new interior elements and the latest technology. The ongoing model meets all of the people’s needs, but 2018 BMW X3 will bring something special.
The third-generation BMW X3 has been spotted testing on public roads. The new model is supposed to come out next year while the current test car comes with a lot of camouflage and fake panels. Nevertheless, spied vehicle is close to production, but it will definitely change few things regarding its looks in the upcoming months.
2018 BMW X3 Exterior
It is difficult to read through all that camouflage, so there is a rendering based on those spy photos. The new version will come with a larger kidney grille flanked by smaller headlights which will incorporate similar design as the ones on the current model. The running light LED strip starts at the outside corner, and it goes under the bulbs to the lower inboard point where it ends. Meanwhile, the fog lights will remain the same, and the air dam will have the identical shape, but there is a horizontal louver that goes from one side to the other.
When you look at the 2018 BMW X3 from the side, you will clearly see that the lines are slightly different. The upper body line runs straight from the fender back instead of curving down at the front wheel arch, and it is a little bit sharper on the new model. The crease located in the center of the doors is also sharper whereas the cladding appears to be identical. The new X3 will sit on dual-five-spoke wheels like the ones visible in the rendering.
There are minor changes on the rear segment with the body lines on the hatch being slightly toned down, but overall, the rear fascia will remain mostly the same. It appears that the tested vehicle comes with a dual exhaust and the moonroof that is integrated into the top allowing more light inside the cabin.
Interior
Even though we can see the interior of the 2018 BMW X3, we cannot tell you much about it because it has been covered as well. However, the steering wheel on the test mule comes with a longer bottom spoke, and it has silver buttons together with a silver insert on it. There is a digital instrument cluster with a digital speedometer on the left side and a digital tachometer on the right.
The center console will not be changed, but the shifter will sport a chrome overlay on one side making it more refined. Around a control knob, there is a gray trim while the shifter, together with cup holders is repositioned slightly to the back. A control panel is visible above the cup holders while two center vents are located below the infotainment screen which isn’t recessed into the dashboard. The biggest changes are the instrument cluster and infotainment system, but there are going to be some tiny updates we cannot talk about at the moment.
Under the Hood – Petrol & Diesel In BMW X3
The 2018 BMW X3 is going to offer several gasoline and diesel engines, but a plug-in hybrid is expected as well. The next-gen model will sit on the CLAR platform, but at this moment we don’t have official info about engines that will be featured here.
The ongoing version, however, comes with a 2.0-liter turbocharged I4 good for 240 hp, but there is also a turbocharged 3.0-liter that generates 300 hp. There is one 4-cylinder diesel unit that delivers 180 hp, and each of these units could be carried over, while at the same time they could be replaced or slightly modified.
Price and Release Date of 2018 BMW X3
The current X3 costs $39,250 in the sDrive25i trim. However, if you want the xDrive25i, you would have to pay $41,250 whereas the xDrive35i is available at $47,950. Even if the pricing changes for the 2018 model year, it will be a negligible increase – by a $1,000 perhaps. We might see the all-new version at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September while it should hit the market probably early in 2018.
