BMW has already launched the next-generation 5-Series, and their focus has switched to the high-performance M5 version, which should hit the market soon. Once again the 2018 BMW M5 has been caught on camera, and as we can conclude, it started to strip the camouflage off its body.

The photographer is positive that the performance model will be equipped with a V8 engine, which is an upgraded variant of the 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that powers the ongoing M5. In the M5 Jahre Edition from 2014, the unit delivers 600 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque, so there is a possibility that in the new version, it will generate even more power.

Boosting power is fine, but the company should reduce the weight of the performance-oriented M5. The new 5-Series will be based on the modular-designed CLAR architecture which underpins the 2016 7-Series and just because of that, the new vehicle has managed to shed 220 pounds, and it is lighter than its predecessor. The ongoing curb weight of the car is 4,123 pounds – it is just too much.

Furthermore, the new 2018 BMW M5 will come with an AWD configuration, but the system will come with the feature which will allow drivers to change it into an RWD mode whenever they want, and all of the torque is going to be sent to the rear wheels in that case. Meanwhile, the German carmaker will offer an 8-speed automatic, while for some reason, the manual transmission is not going to be available.
