The i8 Concept Spyder was introduced five years ago, but we need to wait for the next year to see the production model. While we are waiting, BMW is starting a teaser campaign, and they revealed the first video in which the plug-in hybrid droptop version is visible with heavy covers trying to conceal an already familiar design.
Interestingly enough, the roof comes without any camouflage, and it appears to be produced out of fabric, but we cannot tell for sure. Furthermore, a prototype similar to this model in the video has been spotted several times in the streets, unless we are talking about different vehicles. Unlike the coupe, the i8 Roadster will come with two humps located behind the rear seats, but the other characteristics will be identical to its counterpart with the fixed roof.
This version is supposed to be based on the upcoming facelifted coupe, which means that the i8 Roadster will feature the rumored power boost immediately when it hits the market. The hybrid powertrain will comprise a 1.5-liter gasoline engine and an electric motor which, in combination, produce 372 horsepower. Also, the new 2018 BMW i8 is going to sport a bigger battery pack, but for all this, it is just better to wait for the official information.
2018 BMW i8 Roadster Release Date
The i8 sales will start in 2018 implying that the Roadster may be presented to the public in the upcoming months. And now we have the official teaser. Most likely, the German carmaker is going to showcase the i8 Roadster at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September unless it leaks out on the internet earlier. The starting price of the regular model in the United States is $143,400, and that is without any additional options. Expect the price of this version to go even higher making it quite exclusive.
