The German automaker BMW is continuing to grace us with its gems, and the latest one is the 2-Series that has been spied testing. The 2-Series is pretty much everybody’s favorite car in their lineup, and the high-performance M2 version has been recently voted by Motor Authority as the “Best Car to Buy 2017”. The reason for this is because this is pretty much the only car lately added to the lineup that somehow reminds us of the old BMW’s where rear wheel drive, inline six engines, and 6-speed manual transmission ruled undisputedly.
This 2018 BMW 2-Series is a breath of fresh air from the manufacturer, especially now when they have their crosshairs pointed at supplying every segment possible, even if it means making and delivering a front wheel driven minivans in the form of 2 Series Gran Tourer. But let’s get back to the 2018 model that is now in its mid-life and has to undergo some changes that are apparent on the prototype spotted driving around near BMW’s headquarters in Munich, Germany. As it goes with the mid-cycle updates, do not expect much, especially in the design department, where the 2-Series is supposed to host a few changes in bumpers and lights.
2018 BMW 2-Series Powertrain
The engine lineup will also remain unchanged, and the reason is simple enough. As you recall, BMW has just recently overhauled its engine fleet for 2017, and the lack of changes on the engines in 2018 2-Series can’t be held against them. The base model will bring the 230i mark that will host a 248 hp turbocharged 2.0 L inline four engine that is more than awesome for entry level. The next step is the M240i M Performance model with a 335 hp, and a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six, and last but not least is the M2 with same turbo 3.0 unit sitting at the top of the range but this time with 365 hp. There have also been some rumors about a possibility of an even more powerful M2 variant prepared and that it will most likely be aimed to revive the company CS badge.
But until then, we will have to wait for the 2018 BMW 2-Series to hit the markets sometime mid or end 2017 as a 2018 model year.
