Bentley has been secretive about their upcoming Continental GT for too long. Not only have they been secretive but they also took a lot of time to design it and make it. At last, we had a few prototypes however they were heavily camouflaged. It is not all that dark and gloomy as we finally we have some renders based on numerous spy photos. These renders are courtesy of OmniAuto (Motor 1 Italy).
What we could discern from those prototypes was that the company didn’t introduce groundbreaking changes, but it did change quite a bit. There are numerous tweaks, and although they are subtle, they are quite effective. Thanks to the prototype in question and its recent counterpart EXP12 Speed 6e we can see how the Crewe’s design language evolved and we like the direction it’s headed to. The exquisite retro-modern interior was a feature of both aforementioned cars, and we can only hope that interior stays the same for the road-going models.
When you take a look at the exterior of the upcoming 2018 Bentley Continental GT, you kind of get an impression that the engineers have facelifted the outgoing model, rather than produced a completely new vehicle. And that’s where you would be wrong. The models are getting entirely new underpinnings because of a switch to the MSB platform, just like the latest Porsche Panamera. By doing so, engineers succeeded in cutting the weight of the car, however, the lightest version of the vehicle will still be as heavy as two tons at least.
Not only have the engineers of Bentley cut weight but they also made more space for power and muscle. How did they utilize that? By making two options when it comes to engines, the first one is biturbo 4.0-liter V8 and the second option is the VW Group’s new biturbo 6.0-liter W12 mill. One groundbreaking thing about this model is also the fact that Bentley came to an agreement to finally electrify its high-end GT, so we will be getting a hybrid that will run on a V6 engine paired to an electric motor. Reports suggest that this version won’t be available right away.
2018 Bentley Continental GT release date
This car is likely to have its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September, but the company might also reveal images of the coupe model a couple of weeks sooner. The convertible should hit the roads several months later, and we expect it to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2018.
