The second-generation Audi R8 was introduced last year, while the race LMS model is in the second motorsport season in 2017. In 2016 the LMS won 24 titles and recorded 85 wins, so it was a successful season, but the road car struggled to beat its competition. Because of the success of the LMS, German company decided to produce a special edition R8 called the R8 Coupe Audi Sport Edition, which was presented this year in New York.
The R8 Coupe Audi Sport Edition comes in the company’s classic racing division colors which are silver, black and red. This car sits on the custom wheels, and it features a bespoke cabin, whereas only 200 examples will be produced, thus making it the most exclusive R8 to date. The drivetrain remains the same as in the standard race car, but despite that, this special edition is really intriguing.
Colors
The Audi Sport Edition is available only in Floret Silver, Mythos Black, and Ibis Silver, but no matter which one you choose, you will be stuck with Brilliant Red quarter window covers, mirror caps and side blades. Also, the single frame grille, the rear diffuser, and the front spoiler are painted in Titanium Black, and the combination of these colors really makes the R8 unique.
What you can also see on this vehicle are trapezoidal tailpipes in gloss black and 20-inch forged aluminum wheels with 10-spoke Y rims finished in Anthracite Black with silver edges. Step inside this car and you will immediately notice the aluminum door sill inlays with “Audi Sport” label, red rhombus and a “1/200” inscription. Express Red Nappa leather is used for the seats and door panels, while there is the “R8” emblem on the backrests of the seats.
The 2018 Audi R8 Coupe Audi Sport Edition brings dark silver stitching on the steering wheel, seats and door trim, whereas dashboard, A/C vents, and center console feature gloss carbon inlays. The steering wheel comes with a flat bottom, and it has the race-specific 12 o’clock stripe. The special edition carries the same engine as the standard R8 – a 5.2-liter V10 that delivers 610 horses and 413 lb-ft of torque in the Plus model and 540 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque in the base version. The top speed is rated at 200 and 205 mph in standard and Plus variant respectively, while it can reach 62 mph in 3.5 and 3.2 seconds.
The Audi Sport Edition will be sold for €181,900 in Germany whereas the V10 Plus model will cost €205,800. The pricing information for the US market is unknown.
