2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio will appear at 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show in November for the first time, but it has been spotted recently.
In September a video was posted on which we can see an undisguised version of the vehicle. Stelvio has been spotted on the streets and although it has been camouflaged some parts have been clearly visible.
The rumor about an Alfa Romeo SUV have circulated from 2008, but we doubted that the car will be in the production line, until FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne confirmed that in May 2014. Since then, Marchionne has planned to produce two SUVs, next to Stelvio.
BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC should get a bitter rival in the new Alfa Romeo SUV. The overhauled RWD Giorgio platform, which appeared in 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia, is used for the new model. So there is a possibility that an RWD will be offered, an AWD will probably be a standard option.
Giulia will borrow some design lines to the new vehicle as well as the grille and headlights. An athletic look is achieved with low and lean shape and the car looks like a coupe a bit. Giulia will also serve as an inspiration when it comes to the engine options.
A base trim Stelvio will be equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4. On the other hand top trim model called Stelvio Quadrifoglio (the name is not confirmed yet) will come with a twin turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 for the US market. An 8-speed automatic transmission should be standard, whereas a 6-speed manual should come as an option.
New Alfa Romeo SUV will hit the US market in mid-2017 as a 2018MY.
We will know more details once the Los Angeles Auto Show starts.
