The 2017 Toyota Sienna is one of the older minivans, but it has constantly received enhancements and it is still out there fighting for its position on the market. The vehicle boasts spacious cabin and large capacity and is still one of the best in the class. It was overhauled back in 2010, but last year Toyota did a face-lift. They gave the redesigned car an improved interior and increased material quality.
The larger advancements for the new model can be seen under the hood. The V6 engine is upgraded, and it is mated to a new eight-speed transmission, which improves performance. Key competitors of the 2017 Toyota Sienna are Kia Sedona and Honda Odyssey.
Under the Hood and Driving Experience
The 2017 Toyota Sienna is equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 engine. Considering that the unit has been upgraded, it now produces 293 hp and 263 lb-ft of torque. New setup combines it with an eight-speed automatic gearbox that sends power to front wheels as a standard for all models, but you have an AWD option for upper trims.
Due to the engine upgrades, fuel economy is better. According to the EPA estimates, FWD Sienna cars are rated at 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway which makes it 22 mpg combined. The results of the AWD models is 18 in the city and 24 on the highway, which is 20 mpg in total.
Not only has the fuel mileage improved, but also the performance has gone up. The handling is satisfactory, but in general, the driving is different between trims. For example, the suspension on the SE is firm, and the car behaves better in curves while the comfort is still on a high level. Minivans are not fun to drive, so you won’t have a blast with this one either, but it is still better than the previous model.
