If you remember, Business Insider sometime in December had declared the Acura NSX the Car of the Year, but there was also a lot of other models that were more than good, but unfortunately didn’t make the cut. One of such cars is the Nissan Rogue. This vehicle had increased sales growth from 2014 and because of that it “threatens” to become Nissan’s top-selling vehicle. This revamped 2017 Nissan Rogue feels very luxurious but it’s still acting as a comfortable and easy-to-drive crossover, and that is exactly the reason it has been taken for a test.
2017 Nissan Rogue Price
If you are looking for an affordable crossover SUV that has lot’s of excitement to offer, Rogue is the next best thing with starting price of $23,820. But if you want something more than you can opt for an SL Premium model that costs $31,310 which, if you consider, is reasonable enough given all the things it brings.
If you are not familiar with the Rogue, you need to know that the 2017 model offers a re-tuned and updated front end that now includes integrated fog lamps in the bumper. It’s a powerful look, but it comes without any showboating. The SL Premium model that is tested here offers 170 HP with 175 lb-ft of torque, and it came with the all-wheel drive. It ran more than good in town and its drive to highway was decent enough without anything out of the ordinary for an crossover SUV. It is very responsive and holds its own each step of the way, with very smooth braking all the time.
The space it offers is admirable for a small crossover SUV, and that is inside as well as in the trunk. But the cargo space comes with an option to lift up the base of the trunk where you can store flat objects if you really want to maximize it. The Rogue SL comes with the Platinum Reserve Interior Package that hosts tan seats that come with special quilted leather inserts, which definitely bring up the driver comfort to the next level.
But let’s look back at what actually sets apart the 2017 Nissan Rogue from others, it’s the tech on the inside. The car comes available with memory for the driver’s seat that automatically positions as soon as you turn the car on. When you get all nice and comfy on that automatically placing driver seat, you immediately see a steering wheel that comes with standard auxiliary controls which are easy to get the hang of after a few hours of driving. You can also opt for a heated steering wheel as well.
If you shift your focus to the center stack you see the NissanConnect navigation system which is great in many ways but lacking in others. It comes with a 7-inch touchscreen display, pretty similar to what you can see in other crossovers. The touchscreen is extremely easy to use, with auto-filling in destinations so you do not have to spend time tapping on the touchscreen, and it also always calculates based on the fastest route. But here come the “problems.” The Starlink navigation system is better at giving more convenient directions like telling you to turn after two lights rather than spitting out street names. But there was cure for this as well, and it is the virtual driver’s instrument in addition to the display that gave very clear directions and other useful info.
To continue, NissanConnect also comes with a rear-traffic alert that will show the view behind you when you choose reverse, then there is the Nissan Rogue‘s blind-spot warning tech which is more than commendable and practical with a button inside the car that glows yellow as soon as a car enters your blind spot. The list continues with a lane-departure warning, intelligent cruise control, and forward collision warning with pedestrian detection. All in all the systems are very intuitive and easy to use without requiring outside guidance or assistance.
Nissan also offers a hybrid option that outputs 141 HP and 144 lb-ft of torque. It has a 30-kilowatt electric motor, but we still do not know its all-electric range. When all things are considered Nissan Rogue is a decently comfortable crossover SUV with great visibility and lift above the road, and with all that tech available, it is very hot stuff indeed.
