The mid-size SUV from Mitsubishi has been improved. 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander has more features and better technology options. Now it has a 7” Smartphone Link Display Audio infotainment system that is compatible with both Apple and Android products, DAB+ digital radio and a new center console. In the cargo area of the car we are getting a 12V socket and on the roof, there is a new shark fin antenna. If you decide for the 4×4 version, it will include an electric parking brake (opposite of the manual that the old version used to have).
There are several equipment levels. The LS is the starting one. It has seven seats and heated electric folding mirrors. Dual-zone climate control is mandatory for both automatic and manual transmission equipped cars.
LS Safety Pack is a new version that is supposed to replace the middle range XLS. This trim comes with five seats and with two- or all-wheel drive in combination with petrol units. However, seven seats are available in both 4×4 petrol and diesel versions. As for the new standard features that it comes with, those are adaptive cruise control, forward collision mitigation, lane departure warning and electrochromic rear-view mirror (it darkens automatically at night in response to headlights). It also comes with automatic headlights, automatic wipers, automatic high beam and steering-mounted paddle shifters (diesel versions).
Exceed is the name of the next trim. It has a 360 camera system, blind spot monitoring, LED fog lights, lane change assistance, miss-acceleration mitigation system and rear cross-traffic alert. If the car is in D (drive) or R (reverse), and going 0-10km/h, this new feature can detect if the driver depresses the accelerator pedal hard or abruptly. This can happen accidentally and instead of the brake pedal driver could hit the accelerator causing an accident and serious damage. The new system will prevent this.
What is also interesting is that Mitsubishi has updated autonomous emergency braking system (AEB). It will now use the camera and laser radar sensors so the 2017 Outlander can now spot and detect pedestrians at speeds up to 65km/h and vehicles up to 80km/h.
Seven colors are available for customers to choose from.
As for the petrol engines in the new model, they will have a 2.0-litre unit on base version. The 4×4 versions will have two options, one is a 2.4-litre petrol powerplant, and the other is 2.2-litre turbo-diesel. We are still not familiar with the performances of the new, 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander. However, it is expected to have the same, or better results than the current model. Currently, the 110kW/190Nm 2.0-litre petrol uses 6.7-7.0L/100km (CVT/manual) on the combined cycle, while the 124kW/220Nm 2.4-litre unit needs 7.2L/100km. If you decide to go for the 110kW/360Nm 2.2-litre diesel, expect it to return 6.2L per 100km.
Logically, every 15,000km there should be a service done, or at least once a year. The company’s capped-price maintenance plan covers the first four scheduled visits.
There are still no prices for the 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander, but these will be announced soon. It’s now up to us to wait for the prices and more details. Anyway, a new car is a new car.
