The 2017 Mazda CX-5 is one of the most anticipated vehicles and ever since the last year people have been waiting for the launch. What also causes impatience is the fact that the refreshed model will bring new diesel engine which will not arrive at the same time as the car, but probably a year later.
Why is a diesel engine such a big deal?
The answer to this is really simple. In North America, it is remarkably hard to find a car with a diesel unit due to strict emission requirements but also to the nature of the market that is used to gasoline powerplants. It appears that Environmental Protection Agency introduced even more rigorous emission requirements after the Volkswagen’s issues with diesel engines. Now, Mazda will manage to bring a diesel-powered vehicle to the US, and this is why it is such a big deal.
Power is not important
Those people who want the 2017 Mazda CX-5 with a diesel unit do not want it because of the horsepower. As it is known, diesel powerplants are not about the power and the reason why the people want a car with this type of engine is that it comes with a great number in terms of fuel efficiency.
Capability
In some other markets, Mazda CX-5 with a diesel engine is already on sale, according to the reports. Under its hood is a 2.2-liter SKYACTIV-D turbo four-cylinder that produces 173 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. The diesel-powered Mazda that will be on sale in the US and Canada will have 20 lb-ft of torque less than the one sold across the pond because of the emission requirements.
Fuel economy
With the diesel engine comes great fuel economy but for now, these figures remain unknown. According to Japanese car maker, the fuel efficiency of its diesel unit can be compared to those offered in hybrids, which means that 2017 Mazda CX-5 will be rated at about 40/50 mpg city/highway.
2017 Mazda X-5 Release Date and Price
Mazda will be in dealerships in North America by the end of March 2017 with the starting price of $24,900 (delivery and freight charges excluded). The sales of the CX-5 with the diesel powerplant will start in fall, 2018 and we can’t wait for it.
