The sixth-generation Maserati Quattroporte was launched back in 2013, and it was improved drastically compared to its predecessor. The styling of this vehicle resembled the one we get from Gran Turismo, whereas things were done differently in the cabin. This flagship sedan already received mid-cycle facelift and numerous extra features and standard equipment. So, what is the 2017 Maserati Quattroporte like?
Maserati Quattroporte 2017 Exterior
The changes to the exterior are mild, and the front end of the car features the familiar grille on which you can see the carmaker’s famous Trident badge. This grille has been revamped slightly, and the Alfieri concept served as an inspiration for this tiny modification. The Italian company decided to include new front bumper and redesign the side skirts. In addition to that, the 360-degree cameras are incorporated on the side mirrors, and these mirrors look differently as well.
Air Shutter System is located underneath the grille, and this system consists of vents, which can be either opened or closed. When they are opened, they provide optimal engine cooling, but optimal drag resistance is provided when they are closed. Air Shutter System improves the aerodynamics of the new model, and it is a significant addition.
Interior and Features of 2017 Maserati Quattroporte
As we have already said, the 2017 Maserati Quattroporte has seen some serious changes inside the cabin. The new 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto can be found in the cabin as well. You can relax and listen to the high-quality sounds coming from a 10-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.
Overall, the cabin boasts premium equipment and high-quality materials, but the only thing that some people wouldn’t like is the switchgear. It looks cheap and ugly and although some people would disregard the looks of it, we believe that the 2017 Maserati Quattroporte deserves better, especially since the people complained about it in the past. The Quattroporte is equipped with leather seats which offer 12-way electric adjustment and lumbar support for all and heating for the front row. The passengers feel comfortable on the front seats, but in the back as well, because the interior is spacious and there is enough legroom.
Some of the most important safety features in the new Maserati include lane departure warning, forward collision warning, automated emergency braking, and rear cross-traffic alert, but there are many more.
2017 Maserati Quattroporte – Engine and Noise Issues
The first engine that you can find under the hood of the 2017 Maserati Quattroporte S is a 3.0-liter V6 that produces 404 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. The top speed of this vehicle is 177.7 mph, while it can go from 0 to 62 mph in 5.1 seconds. On the other hand, we have a range-topping model which is equipped with a 3.8-liter V8 unit. This powerplant is powerful, and it delivers 523 hp and 479 lb-ft with an overboost function that when activated unleashes 524 lb-ft of torque. The top speed of the highest trim is 192.6 mph whereas it reaches 62 mph in just 4.7 seconds.
Another powerplant in the lineup is the 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 diesel that pumps out 271 horses and 443 pound-feet of torque. This model takes 6.4 seconds to complete 0-62 mph run, and the top speed is limited to 156.5 mph. All of these engines are mated to the ZF eight-speed automatic transmission.
Maserati Quattroporte has had issues with road noise, so in order to fix this problem, the Italian carmaker decided to include sound-deadening carpet and double-laminated acoustic glass for the windscreen and rear window. However, Maserati could have done something different to combat this sound issue, though. Yes, they managed to reduce noise in the cabin, but the roar of the V8 is also muffled and stifled, and it sounds as if it is coming from some other vehicle.
Pricing Details
The starting price of the 2017 Maserati Quattroporte is $103,400 for the S trim. The upper S Q4 variant costs $109,500 whereas for the range-topping GTS GranSport and GranLusso you would have to pay $145,500. There is no doubt that Maserati has built a masterpiece with a great interior and powerful powertrain options. However, there are some downsides such as old-fashioned switchgear and the sound of the engine inside the luxurious cabin. Still, the Quattroporte is expected to be one of Maserati’s best-selling vehicles.
