Honda CR-V was launched to the market 20 years ago for the first time. Ever since then, nearly four million vehicles of this famous compact SUV have been sold in the US only. This is a fascinating number, and Honda believes that their CR-V has reached the top of the list in total units sold.
The production of the 2017 Honda CR-V has started in East Liberty Assembly Plant in Ohio (ELP). This is the first factory to start manufacturing the new model, and we have received information that the first vehicles already left the facility earlier this week.
2017 Honda CR-V Platform and Engines
The new car is based on the platform we can find on the ongoing Civic. Under the hood, a 1.5-liter turbocharged I4 engine lies, and it produces 190 hp and 179 lb-ft of torque sending power through CVT to the front wheel drive system. However, the Japanese automaker also offered AWD as optional. Only the base trim will have a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder good for 184 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque, and according to Honda, 75% of customers will opt for the turbocharged unit. This completely makes sense as both engines offer similar power level but few extra mpg from smaller one is something that most people will appreciate.
The 2017 Honda CR-V will boast two inches more legroom for the passengers in the rear seat compared to its predecessor. In addition, the car will come equipped with a 7.0-inch touchscreen, whereas numerous driver assistance features will be included.
The ELP manager, Tim Myers stated:” Our Ohio team did an incredible job as the lead plant for the global launch of this new Honda CR-V. We believe the CR-V will continue to set the standard for compact SUVs.”
The 2017 Honda CR-V will be assembled in ten factories across the globe, and this one in Ohio has been the first one that started with the production. This car maker also operates in plants in Ontario, Canada and Greensburg, Indiana and the production of the CR-V should soon start there, too.
