2017 Frankfurt auto show and what should be expected to bring!

Source:iaa.de

Traditional auto shows are still a thing of fashion, but as time goes by more and more, they become a thing of past. The automakers, instead, decide for more modern methods when launching a new car, but if you are a traditional kind of guy/girl do not despair as some of the biggest car shows will be very hard to circle around. One of those events is the Frankfurt Auto Show which will take this year, as it did last, host plenty of concepts, updates and brand new models. Thanks to that you will get a chance to compare those vehicles side by side as you see them, which is as traditional as it gets. The Frankfurt Auto Show is slated to start September 12th, and here are some of the vehicles you will see there.

Mercedes-AMG Project One

Source:digitaltrends.com

This is the gem we recently wrote about, and pretty much this is the most expected hypercar out there. Such big anticipation comes from the fact that this hypercar will be powered by the same engine that powered the Mercedes AMG Formula 1 car. But that is not all, it will have the additional power source that will come in the form of two electric motors that will be powering Project One’s front wheels and by that it will offer an all-wheel-drive setup. The cherry on top is its price tag that will be around $2.8 million. How about that?!

Ferrari Portofino

Source:carsguide.com.au

When it comes to Ferrari, it is hard to pass them by at any car show. It doesn’t matter if there are new vehicles or iterations of existing ones they always seem to catch your attention. We believe that this year will not be any different since Ferrari is bringing their Portofino which is basically a reskinned California T, but hey it’s a Ferrari who would resist seeing one? The Portofino is powered by a 3.9 L twin-turbocharged V8 that offers 592 HP, and it will be able to sprint from 0-60 MPH in just 3.5 seconds.

Kia Fastback concept

Source:cleantechnica.com

Kia is really moving forward with their designs, and they are about to show that with their Fastback concept. It will undoubtedly be one of the most attractive vehicles on Kia’s stand, but there is a downside to this. Apparently, the Fastback concept isn’t going to be a production car, at least not in this form. It has a task of showing the fastback design that Kia will most likely introduce to the next gen of Cee’d which is set for the European market.

2018 Jaguar E-Pace

Source:autocar.co.uk

The Jag E-pace is one of those vehicles that raised a lot of dust lately, and thankfully Jaguar has decided to use the Frankfurt Auto Show to finally reveal their latest masterpiece. This is also the place where we will see the similar-sized I-Pace electric SUV. Whether you know this or not, the E-Pace is hitting the showroom in early 2018 (I-Pace is set for second part of 2018) and its pricing will be set at $39,595 with destination fees included.

2019 Porsche Cayenne

Source:autoblog.com

The well known and most important mid-size SUV of this German automaker will be presented at this year’s Frankfurt Auto Show. We also covered this model just recently, and we were astonished how much new things will be in this third gen. Well, basically, besides the design which kept its well-known form, pretty much everything is new on the 2019 Porsche Cayenne. The company prepared us for the upcoming vehicle by releasing teasers for the base variant and a sporty trim Cayenne S, and they both have the same turbocharged V6 engine but with different power output. The base Cayenne will offer 340, while the Cayenne S will bring 440 HP. As you can see the figure has been raised up from previous gen but don’t be scared, thankfully the prices stayed almost the same. The price tag for a base Cayenne is $66,750 with destination fees included.

2018 Rolls-Royce Phantom

Source:autoblog.com

Ahhh the car that oozes elegance, prestige and high social rating. It is definitely the vehicle that shows that you have money and that you don’t care about it, one bit. Rolls-Royce will use the 2017 Frankfurt Auto Show to present their eighth-generation Phantom that now sits on a brand new platform that is made only for Rolls-Royce. To make things even more interesting, the company decided to pair the new platform with the brand new 6.75 L twin-turbocharged V12 that will deliver astonishing 563 HP, but Rolls-Royce buyers will not be burdened with the power output. You buy one of these for its luxury and elegance.

BMW Z4 concept

Source:designboom.com

Yes, this is the vehicle that BMW was preparing for so long, but sadly you won’t see the end product on the Frankfurt showroom floor. Instead, Germans are bringing the BMW Z4 concept. You shouldn’t be sad about that because those concept versions are actually capable of revealing much-needed cues and features regarding the design, interior, engines and so forth. So far the concept hosts a forward angled grille and headlights that are set higher than the trademark kidneys. All of this gives the Z4 its almost shark-like look that will bring fear to any driver who sees one of these in the rearview mirror. The platform that will carry the new model is co-developed with Toyota which will also be used to underpin the Japanese automaker’s new Supra.

Mercedes-Benz EQ A concept

Source:evo.co.uk

Another interesting concept and another one from this German automaker. Mercedes-Benz EQ A concept is an electric compact car which is still in the works, but Mercedes decided to at least showcase this one and let you see what awaits you in the future. The EQ A will be a vehicle that will come in the form of a hatchback, and it will be an EV that is delivered by company’s EQ sub-brand, and that is basically all anyone knows about it. Besides this, they are preparing a crossover-type vehicle called the EQ C which is supposed to rival the Tesla Model Y and an electric BMW X3.

Honda Urban EV concept

Source:paultan.org

Do we need even to try and explain what this vehicle will be? I think not, its name says it all. This is an electric car concept designed for urban environments, and it will likely be just like the Bolt EV. The vehicle that Urban EV comes inspired by is the Honda’s NeuV concept that was unveiled in January at the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show. Since the NeuV wasn’t meant for mass production, the idea and some of the design cues will go into the Urban EV which will definitely see and feel the streets of Europe.

2019 Bentley Continental GT

Source:motortrend.com

Bentley just like Rolls-Royce keeps making their vehicles more and more stunning and prestigious. With the new Continental GT, the company hit the new high when it comes to the prestige and power combo. With the excellently designed in and out, a massive W12 slapped under the hood, and a 48-volt active suspension system, the 2019 Continental GT will be every “boy’s” dream. Bentley decided that they should spice things up a bit and they added what seems to be a unique rotating three-sided display in the dash that rotates between the infotainment touchscreen, three analog gauges, and a book-matched piece of wood veneer.

Mini Electric concept

Source:carmagazine.co.uk

Some time ago Mini announced they are going to try themselves at electric car market and they plan to do that with the Mini Electric model that will arrive in Frankfurt in its concept form. Nothing technical is known about it so far, but everyone expects that it will host a single electric motor combined with a battery pack that will be capable of offering at least 200 miles of range. From the teasers of the concept, we can see that the end product might use its signature Hardtop body style.

Smart Vision EQ ForTwo concept

Source:motoring.com.au

Smart has also gone one step forward, and it will use Frankfurt Auto Show to preview their personal transportation of tomorrow. Smart will show up at Frankfurt with a concept which is, according to them, a fully self-driving electric car ideal for shared urban mobility. With this concept, Smart will also showcase the new connectivity technology which is a part of Daimler’s corporate strategy known as CASE – Connected, Autonomous, Shared and Electric.

2018 Volkswagen T-Roc

Source:motortrend.com

Another German company and another compact crossover that spawned from the concept previewed in 2014. The T-Roc, unfortunately, will not be sold Stateside, but do not worry, VW has something for that market as well. It will come in the form of another small sub compact vehicle named a T-Cross. We all saw that sub-compact model in its concept form called the T-Cross Breeze concept and it was shown in 2016.

Mercedes-Benz GLC F-Cell EQ Power

Source:motortrend.com

Thanks to this vehicle Mercedes is becoming a first luxury car maker that will utilize the fuel cell for its propulsion. The GLC F-Cell EQ Power is set to hit the market sometime in 2018, and the near ready product will be shown to everyone right in Frankfurt. This vehicle wouldn’t be all that special if it weren’t for one thing, and that is the fact that this is a combo of a plug-in hybrid and a hydrogen-electric plug-in hybrid. Thanks to engineers installing a very sizeable battery, you will be able to lean on public charging stations to feed this luxury SUV, instead of basically nonexistent (for the time being) hydrogen stations.

2018 Suzuki Swift Sport

Source:moneycontrol.com

You must remember this one right?! It is a nice looking little hot hatch that was offered in the USA in the 90’s, and it is still offered everywhere else. The Suzuki company went with a redesigned model of this hot hatch, and it hit the showrooms in early 2017, and now they are bringing the redesigned Sport variant for a 2018 model year. Not much technical info is available, but a straight four will definitely be under the hood attached to a manual transmission that will send power to all four corners of the car. Some rumors say around 140 HP will be at your disposal.

Although this post is comprehensive and has a lot of vehicles featured, this is just a tip of the iceberg meaning there are a whole lot more cars awaiting you at the car show. If you are able and willing, try and not miss this one! We sure won’t.
