In a category of midsize crossover SUVs, there are plenty cars to choose from, and one may set his/her eyes on a 2017 Ford Edge. This vehicle is great because it offers a lot of space for both passengers and cargo. What separates this car from the rest of the segment is that it has two rows of seats instead of usual three.
However, this may be the disadvantage, because if you are looking for a vehicle with three rows of seats, 2017 Ford Edge is not an option. The 2017 model is almost identical to the previous version, but there are some minor changes. So let’s go into greater detail.
Features and Technologies
Before we see what equipment is offered, we need to mention that four trims are available. The base trim is SE, followed by SEL and Titanium. The range-topping trim is Sport.
The Ford Edge SE comes with keyless entry and 18-inch wheels. In addition to this, you would also get push-start button, cloth seats which can be manually adjusted and a Sync system with six speakers and USB and Bluetooth connectivity. Among other features, there is a rearview camera. However, if you opt for the more expensive SEL, you will get power driver and EasyFold remote rear-seat release. Moreover, reverse parking aid, dual-zone climate control, and satellite radio are also offered.
Some of the optional features include AWD, navigation and many safety features such as blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping warning system, and forward collision warning. You can also improve your 2017 Ford Edge by adding a forward facing camera or inflatable rear safety belts.
Upper Titanium trim and top-shelf Sport come with hands-free liftgate feature and panoramic roof. In addition to this heated and ventilated front seats and a heated steering wheel are included, whereas an adaptive steering system will help you with driving. The passengers in the second row can enjoy a rear-seat entertainment system.
2017 Ford Edge Engine Options
Each trim except the top one comes with a 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbocharged I4 powerplant. This engine comes standard with FWD models, but it can also power AWD variants and is capable of producing 245 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque. If you own or planning to buy SEL or Titanium trim, you can put more powerful 3.5-liter V6 under the hood, which is good for 280 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque but to be honest do not expect major improvements in performances over smaller turbo unit.
As expected, the strongest engine is in the range-topping Sport trim. Here we are talking about a 2.7-liter EcoBoost turbocharged V6 unit that delivers 315 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. It is essential to say that the AWD is standard for the range-topping model. No matter which engine you choose, you will get a six-speed automatic transmission.
Design Changes of new Ford Edge
The 2017 Edge is a wide car, so be careful when you park. This is why there is so much space inside, but the overall look of the exterior is conservative. On the front, the grille has a trapezoidal shape, next to which we can see the headlights. However, the Sport version has a piano-black grille which separates it from other trim levels. Also, the headlights are authentic as well as the rear end. For example, Sport trim features exhaust tips come with a trapezoidal design, whereas they are circular on rest of the trims.
Inside the cabin, five passengers can feel comfortable. The 2017 Ford Edge boasts excellent legroom for passengers and space in general for cargo and people. The cargo capacity is 39.2 cubic feet, but you can easily increase it by folding the rear seats. If you do that, you will get 73.4 cubic feet. What is new in the cabin are physical buttons for climate and audio control instead of touch controls. Another significant feature is the Sync 3 Infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
2017 Ford Edge on the Road
Note that there is a difference between 2017 Ford Edge trims as they come with different engines. Be that as it may, all vehicles across the range offer the balance of power and comfortable driving experience. The base model stands out as the only one which has the start/stop technology that saves fuel, and it is more efficient than the other models.
However, you can deactivate this system by pressing a button. Even the 2.0-liter turbocharged I4 is powerful and in combination with a six-speed automatic, you will have a pleasurable ride. In addition, there is not much noise in the cabin so you can relax and enjoy.
Pricing details
If you like the base SE trim, you would have to pay $30,000 whereas for the SEL you would need to add $2,700 to that price. The starting price of the Titanium is $36,500. However, if you can afford it, we suggest the top Sport trim which is indeed more costly and starts at $41,300. If you want fully loaded Sport version be prepared to pay more than $47,000.
