The sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro was introduced last year for the first time, and there was no doubt that it was one of the most attractive cars on the market. For instance, the 2017 Camaro SS 1LE is priced at $45,700, which still may be a bit higher for many muscle car fanatics. Nevertheless, three Chevrolet Camaro vehicles were tested on the Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch, so let’s take a look. 2017 Chevrolet Camaro SS
Under the Hood
The Chevy Camaro SS is equipped with a 6.2-liter V8 engine that produces 455 hp, and it is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. In addition, the car also features a set of accessory wheels wrapped in stock rubber.
Performance Parts
Some of the performance parts on the SS are six-piston Brembo front brake kit with larger rotors and V8 strut tower brace. The former costs $3,000, whereas the latter is priced at $195. Moreover, the suspension lowering kit with new springs and a matching dampers is included at the $1,500 cost. You also get suspension handling kit with larger stabilizer bars and stiffer suspension links.
Driving Experience
The overhauled Camaro SS has the lower center of gravity which helps the car be more stable in the corners whereas the squealing of the tires is reduced drastically. Furthermore, the handling is sharper, but the ride quality remains at a high level. The braking is also improved, which allows the car to approach the curves better. The performance parts definitely enhanced driving and handling.
Cosmetic Features
However, some of the 1LE equipment such as four-piston rear brakes and short-throw shifter are offered on our Camaro. The eLSD and upgraded cooling package are omitted. Be that as it may, some cosmetic updates are available among performance bits. Thus, we have 20-inch wheels and black fuel lid with carbon fiber insert on the 2017 Chevy Camaro SS. In addition, you can also find center caps, lower SS grille with red inserts and dark taillights. Furthermore, the car that was tested came with red rally stripe decal package, blade spoiler kit, black bowtie badges and ground effects.
Inside the cabin, there is a black suede armrest with red stitching and black suede knee pads. Moreover, the interior features sports pedal kit and SS logo floor mats as well as the lighting kit.
2017 Chevrolet Camaro 2LT with 3.6-liter V6 Engine
Under the Hood
The second Chevy that was tested was the 2017 Camaro 2LT, and it comes with the RS package. This vehicle is equipped with a 3.6-liter V6 unit which is combined with a six-speed manual gearbox. Unlike the SS the 2LT comes with a set of 20-inch accessory wheels and stock tires. The engine produces 120 hp fewer than the SS, which can definitely be felt on the track. However, it still proved capable, and you simply know what to expect from this vehicle before every turn.
Performance Parts
Besides RS package, Brake and Heavy Duty Cooling packages are also included. Some of the performance parts are four-piston Brembo front brake kit and performance exhaust. The price of the brake kit is $2,000, whereas the exhaust costs $1,095. In addition, short-throw shifter, a performance air intake and suspension handling kit were available on the concept, but they also made their way to the test car.
Driving Experience
On the track, the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro 2LT was a little bit weaker than the stock SS. This is mainly because the FE3 suspension kit from the SS was completely left out. However, the large air intakes and great exhaust pipes helped, so the driving experience was pretty good. The car even sounded more powerful than it actually was, due to the exhaust upgrades.
Cosmetic Features
The 2017 Camaro 2LT features some design changes as well. Some of the cosmetic parts which are included are center caps with stock tires, dark taillights, and black bowtie emblems. In addition to that, the car sports body side decal, silver grille insert for LT, blade spoiler, black fuel door with carbon fiber inserts and ground effects.
Speaking of the interior, logo armrest and red knee pads are some of the parts included while gloss black door trim, logo floor mats, and sport pedal kit are there to improve the looks further.
2017 Chevrolet Camaro 2LT With 2.0-Liter Turbo-Four Unit
Under the Hood
The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro 2LT also comes with the RS package. However, the difference is that this one is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 powerplant able to produce 275 hp while the power goes through a six-speed manual transmission. Large 20-inch forged wheels with stock tires are also employed here.
Performance Parts
Some of the performance parts offered here are suspension lowering kit and a performance exhaust which cost $1,500 and $1,595 respectively. Moreover, $3,000 six-piston Brembo front brake kit is also included, as some of the concept parts such as short-throw shifter and suspension handling kit and wicker-bill spoiler, also made their way to the vehicle. The front Recaro seats up the interior looks, and we have quite a likable appearance.
Driving Experience
The suspension upgrades really spice things up when it comes to driving the 2017 Camaro 2LT, and you will be pleasantly surprised with the handling. Although the vehicle comes with the I4 powerplant and its power rating is not that high, the car is extremely fun to drive.
Cosmetic Features
As for the cosmetic parts, black front fascia extension and black fuel door with exposed carbon fiber insert can be found. In addition, this vehicle is equipped with rear blackout decal, red grille inserts, blade spoiler, dark taillights, black bowtie emblems, whereas the Chevy Performance decal is also included among these.
The interior brings logo floor mats and sport pedal kit, black suede armrests with gray stitching, black suede knee pads, and last but not least, red door trim.
