BMW revealed their new 530e iPerformance, which will hit the market in the middle of January 2017. Moreover, BMW disclosed all of the details about this car and we are now familiar with the price, fuel economy, and emissions. The starting price of the new model is £43,985 while the German manufacturer claims that the car’s fuel economy is 141.2 mpg which is a lot better compared to the fuel economy of Toyota Prius that is rated at 94.1 mpg. BMW also said that the emissions of the new 5 Series Hybrid are 46g/km.

The 530e iPerformance is equipped with a 4-cylinder petrol engine that is combined with one electric motor for a total power output of 276 bhp and 310 lb-ft of torque. The top speed of the vehicle is limited to 146 mph, and it can go from standstill to 62 mph in 6.2 seconds, which is a good result for a hybrid.

The electric-only range of this model is 29 miles, and it can be used at up to 87 mph. However, the total range, including gasoline reservoir, is almost 400 miles in real-world conditions. Speaking of charging, if you use BMW’s i Wallbox it takes under three hours to charge your car fully, but with a standard socket, that time is extended to five hours. There is 410 liters of space in the trunk, and it has been reduced from the standard vehicle’s 530 liters because the battery pack had to be installed.

BMW offers six drive modes and three of them – Sport, Comfort, and Eco Pro – are available on the standard 5 Series, whereas remaining three – Auto eDrive, Max eDrive, and Battery Control – are added to this hybrid. The default driving mode is Auto eDrive, and it engages both the petrol engine and electric motor in synchronization with each other. If you want electric-only driving, you can choose Max eDrive, but in order to switch to Auto, you need to press the acceleration pedal heavily so that it causes the internal combustion engine to intervene. Battery Control helps you preserve the battery in case you need electric-only driving later.

The BMW 530e iPerformance features blue exterior details in the grille and on the wheels, while the charge socket is located between the wheel arch and the A-pillar. Moreover, there are eDrive badges on the door sills, and these are the only things that will visually distinguish it from the standard version.

530e iPerformance Release date

Deliveries of this vehicle will start in March 2017, and it is expected that the new 530e iPerformance accounts for 15% of all 5 Series sales in the first full year.
