For the first time in company’s history, Bentley has produced a diesel car.
As for the engine, Bentley doesn’t want to risk anything, so they are probably going to put a 4.0-liter V8 that produces 429 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque.
The Bentayga SUV is equipped with this unit which helps it reach a top speed of 168 mph, making this expensive off-roader the fastest diesel in the world. It takes him 4.6 seconds on a 0-60mph run and the car returns over 35 mpg which is another record for Bentley.
The new 2017 Bentley Bentayga Diesel can cross 620 miles with a full fuel tank. According to the company the owners can “drive from London to Verbier, Bordeaux or the Scottish Highlands on a single tank.”
An estimated starting price is $176,700, which is about $39,000 less than the petrol version. The deliveries of the Bentayga will begin in January next year in the UK. If you decide to pay $195,000 you will get a Bentley Mulliner Tourbillon, a gold clock on the dashboard. Luckily, this is only optional.
Moreover, a new plug-in hybrid version of a V8 petrol engine will be added to the list. Inserting a hybrid system to the ongoing W12 is not a possibility. As Bentayga product manager, Peter Guest told Auto Express:”We’re considering other options”.
Chief executive Wolfgang Durheimer stated:” The Bentayga diesel represents a moment of immense significance in Bentley’s history. By giving the world its fastest luxury diesel SUV… only Bentley could produce a car so powerful, yet so refined.”
Moreover, Auto Express said:” It’s quiet and smooth with no audible rattle or rumble,” whereas Autocar wrote:” Even in Sport, it’s rare that you’ll be conscious of the V8 unless you’re working it hard.”
The car industry is facing some of the biggest changes with the production of electric cars and emission regulations. Automakers from Bentley show us that they are trying to meet the standards with the new diesel SUV.
In the near future, the demand for sport and luxury cars will not be so big.
