When the second-generation Acura NSX was introduced last year, it came with a hybrid drivetrain, which was a significant step forward. Although it had a luxurious interior, 2017 Ford GT managed to best it at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. The Chief engineer Ted Klaus confirmed the 2017 Acura NSX Type R, which is bound to hit the market by the end of the year, but it is also possible that we will see the new vehicle at the beginning of 2017. What will the upgraded version look like?
Aggressive Exterior
Since the carmaker hasn’t revealed much, we will have to take a look at the standard version in order to explore the possibilities. The 2017 Acura NSX Type R may come out in Championship White color, but we are not quite sure about it. The front end will most definitely have a different style with upgrades delivering more splitters and even additional air intakes.

Just like the front end, we will see a refreshed rear segment, whereas wider track and redesigned lighter wheels are a possibility to further improve handling. There will certainly be a different color on side skirts, rear diffuser and some other parts to contrast the main car paint.
Modest Interior of 2017 NSX Type R
It is estimated that the 2017 Acura NSX Type R will closely follow the base model but that all those unnecessary features will be dropped in order to reduce the price but also the weight as much as possible. However, it would be desirable if they kept the climate control. The passengers will have to sit on slimmer bucket seats, which will be produced out of carbon fiber.
In addition, navigation and audio systems will not make its way to the Type R. The downside of this lack of equipment may be seen in too much noise in the cabin, but don’t feel bad, because the vehicle will be lighter allowing the engine to display its full potential.
Powerful Engine
Speaking of the engine, expect a twin-turbocharged V6 unit with a direct injection under the hood of 2017 Acura NSX Type R. What is amazing is that the unit is paired with three electric motors which increase torque significantly. The powertrain in the regular NSX is good for 573 hp (123 coming from electric motors) and 623 lb-ft of torque (217 from electric units). So we hope that the new Type R with upgrades will be rated at over 700 hp.
As TheDetroitBureau.com stated, the carmaker is looking to increase horsepower coming from the electric motors by adding a larger battery pack. They are also hoping to upgrade power electronics system, and according to the engineers, the 3.5-liter V6 unit still has a long way to go until it reaches the limit. Taking all of this into account, expect the 2017 Acura NSX Type R to be a fast and powerful vehicle.
Acura NSX type R – Rivalry Cars
Two cars that will compete with the NSX Type R are 2018 Nissan GT-R R36 Nismo and 2016 Porsche 911 GT3 RS. First of all, it is expected that Nissan and Acura dominate the market once the both vehicles go on sale. Unlike our Type R, engineers at Nissan and their special Nismo department are not too focused on reducing the weight. Their primary goal is to add as much horsepower as possible and improve traction. This means that if you want a car with better features, Nissan is the way to go.
On the other hand, we have a Porsche which managed to shed even more weight and is now light as a feather. Although it has less power than the Japanese car, the 911 GT3 RS will most likely be the second-fastest production Porsche on the Nurburgring track.
2017 Acura NSX Type R Price
The starting price of the 2017 Acura NSX Type R should not go over $200,000. As we already said, the car will hit the market either by the end of this year or at the beginning of 2017. Although it has yet to be confirmed, it would be great to see the Acura on the market in the future. The car brings amazing power and styling, and it will certainly enrich the car world.
