Kevin Smith helped DC bring Green Arrow back to life in 2001, and in 2002 he joined forces with Terry and Rachel Dodson to create Spider-Man/Black Cat: The Evil That Men Do. At the same time, Smith was supposed to write Amazing Spider-Man by himself, and this would be a follow-up. Furthermore, he was expected to take over the title from J. Michael Straczynski in 2003, but he started to work on Jersey Girl which shifted his attention from comic book titles causing his run never to materialize.
