Marc Webb created Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2014, but many people criticized him for trying to add to many characters to the mix. Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone played Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy respectively, and their relationship was supposed to be the focus of the movie, but it was ruined by the dense cameo-filled CGI action spectacle.
In the movie, Shailene Woodley played Mary Jane Watson who appeared in several scenes, but her small role was excised from the film during the editing phase. Webb said that her performance was great, but keeping the scenes into the movie shifted focus from the main storyline.
