Luke told Rey about what Kylo and the Knights of Ren did to his Jedi in training, but he also said that he managed to escape with “a handful of students.” This could easily mean that one of those students could be the New Jedi in Star Wars 9 and a simple sentence like this could influence the new film significantly.
